The Realty Tower

The Realty Building was constructed in 1924 and was listed on the National Register in 1980. Morris Scheibel and Edgar Stanely designed the Realty building; they were both local architects of Youngstown. Scheibel also designed the Central Tower building, an Art Deco office tower located directly west across the square. The Realty Building is a thirteen (13) story building clad in light brown masonry with intricately patterned terracotta detailing. “The impressive size, the high quality of materials and construction, and the sophisticated design of this building confirms the prestige and desirability long associated with Central Square.” The structure is a fireproof steel frame. Unlike most urban structures located on constricted sites and left with only one or two window exposures, the Realty Building is exposed on all four sides as its sits along Central Square at the southeast corner of Federal Plaza and Market Street. The building has a grid of large windows, which allow for an abundance of natural light and open views.
